Rabbids Coding Level Design Challenge

As a part of a level design competition made by Ubisoft in partnership with Bibliothèque Sans Frontières, I along with two of my friends designed a level in the Rabbids Coding Editor provided by Ubisoft. Our level was tested by the Ubisoft team and ended up being picked as one of the 8 levels which were added to the game. To play our level, go to Level 33 on Rabbids Coding.

This competition was my first real interaction with the industry, and showed me that the skills I've learnt are still applicable to unfamiliar games and editors. The competition also helped me improve my design skills while working in a team, as that was my first experience outside of fast-paced Game Jams.

Piccadilly Potteria

This project was created for the Stoke-On-Trend Games Jam 2021, which was a collaboration between Staffordshire University and the Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID. Our theme was based around the Piccadilly Street, and after some discussion with our team we ended up making a game about pottery, as it is a large part of the streets history. The game is set in an old pizzeria converted to a pottery studio, and the goal of the player is to mould vases into specific shapes, and then selling them to customers.

This Game Jam lasted 5 days, with two artists and two programmers/designers. As one of the programmers, I built the system which allowed the player to interact with objects using their mouse cursor, and also a lot of the gameplay features, such as the shop, and helping create the interaction with the vase. I also helped with designing the game and the core gameplay, and did some minor things such as implementing the music and setting up parts of the UI.

Shifty 8S

This game was created in a team of 3 for the Major Jam 4: Cosmic. This Game Jam lasted a week, and the limitation was "The player has to cheat". In order to fulfil these criteria, we created a basic card game where the player could cheat away cards and hide them from the enemy AI, while they tried to do the same.

I originally suggested the idea of creating a card game and designed how the gameplay would work, and even though it seemed difficult and daunting we stuck with it. Other than designing the game I also created the AI logic, while making sure it could be implemented with the main game easily, and helped with the UI and basic gameplay features.

Ammo Crisis

Ammo Crisis is an Unreal Engine 4 framework given by my University as a part of one of the core first year modules for my course. It was given as a final task for Semester 2, and in it I had to design and balance already existing mechanics in the framework to make an interesting game.

In this course I was required to do a lot of design work for all of the tasks. To view Ammo Crisis click here, or press the button below to view the entire module.

Deek's Adventure

Deek's Adventure is a level built in Unreal Engine 4 in a premade framework as a part of my first year Semester 2 Intro to 3D Engines assignment. For this project I had an entire semester to build a fun level and design interesting puzzles and platforming elements, without changing or editing framework mechanics such as the movement.

For this particular assignment, a lot of emphasis was put on making the level fun and interesting rather than focusing on the aesthetics. To view Deek's Adventure click here, or press the button below to view the entire module.
